E. Wright celebrated her 100th birthday, which was an event of September 15th. During the day approximately 1,000 relatives and friends came. Her granddaughter, Miss Ista Wright, of Pisgah, registered only the friends until 3 o'clock. The number 664. The relatives present were estimated at about 175, and from 3:00 to 4:00 just numbers of people came by to see Mrs. Wright. So many were surprised to find her sitting up talking and smoking her pipe, using her home-grown tobacco, and ready to shake hands with them and invite them back. Each one present enjoyed the day very much. At the noon hour a bountiful repast was spread on a large table, built for this purpose, in the shady front yard. About 60 gallons of lemonade was served to the people, which was refreshing on the hot day. Numbers of church benches and chairs were provided for seat room. Singing was enjoyed in the afternoon. Talks were made by Rev. S. C. Ray, from Lystra community; Enoch Wright, a son of Mrs. Wright, from Pisgah; and Mr. W. C. Burgess, from Motley community. Mrs. Wright, with her two unmarried daughters, lives in her old pioneer home where she has lived for 55 years. She and her husband and family moved from Georgia to Alabama. They built this log house with the huge chimney that was used as a stove for 20 years. She spun thread and wove her cloth to clothe the family a few of the garments, she still has. She also has her spinning wheel. She still uses her old custom of lighting the house, a small brass lamp, cup style, without a globe. Her old-fashioned bed steads make her home interesting to visit. She churns a big churn of milk every day, and just last winter pieced a quilt without the aid of spectacles. She enjoys company and very often tells of experiences during her past life. She is the mother of 11 children, 9 living, 8 of whom were present. There are 38 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.
