Mr. James L. Barnhill an old resident of Clay County, who has passed the 70th 
milestone in life's journey, secured the papers necessary to unite him and Mrs. 
Clayton in the bonds of holy matrimony. Soon after reaching his home, he was 
taken suddenly ill, only a few hours before the ceremony was to have come off, 
his final summons came and he passed to that land, where they neither marry nor 
an given in marriage. Mr. Barnhill was one of Clay's oldest and most prominent 
citizens, having continuously lived in the county since its formation.
