Ashland Progress
On the morning of April 1st at 1 o'clock the death angel visited the home of Mr. 
W. D. Bassett and took for its toll. Mr. Bassett. He was a prominent citizen of 
the New Hope community. He was 65 years, 9 months and 17 days old. Uncle Dowse, 
as he was familiarly called, was a Christian hearted man, good neighbor and a 
faithful church and Sunday school worker. He has been a member of New Hope 
Baptist church for about 28 years. He will be sadly missed in our midst. In his 
last hours he told his companion "That he was ready to die" and that he had made 
peace with God. We commend his widowed companion and his children and other 
relatives to Him who doeth all things well. A Friend. Malone, Ala., April 4.
