The passing of an old and familiar landmark from a community is always accompanied with sadness. Such was the feeling produced by the death of William Pitt Bell, named for the distinguished English statesman, which occurred at the family residence 2 1-2 miles north of Lineville on the morning of April 14, 1914. The deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this county, having moved to Talladega County, now a part of Clay County, before the war and had been a familiar and much beloved figure in the upbuilding of Lineville. The deceased was born in Coweta County, Georgia, November 7, 1834, being at the time of his demise 79 years, 5 months and 7 days old. In 1843 he became a member of the Ramah Baptist church and in 1852 he was married to his cousin, Miss Susan Ann Bell, to which union were born 15 children, nine of whom died when infants, leaving 3 sons and 3 daughters who were with him at the time of his death. He was a member of Lineville Lodge No. 219 A. F. A. M. being one of the first, if not a charter member. He enlisted as a Confederate soldier during the latter part of the war. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning by Rev. C.N. James and Rev. W. T. Davis and the interment occurred in Lineville cemetery.
