Lineville Headlight
She had the long stay of 85 years here in this life. She married Mr. A. J. 
Bishop 60 years ago. To this union were born 10 children. In the conflict of the 
sixties, while the husband was away in the defense of his country, she took care 
of the home, farm and children. She came to Clay County when it was a mere 
wilderness. Bravely has she stood by duty with her neighboring friends that gave 
to us the Clay County we enjoy today. She joined the Lineville Baptist church in 
the early sixties. She was one of the charter members of Good Hope Baptist 
church where she remained a faithful, devoted member until her death. Six of her 
children one by one went on before her. The other four children Mr. W. T. 
Bishop, Mr. J. W. Bishop, Mrs. Sol Whatley and Mrs. J. B. Ray survive her and 
take their places among our best citizens. The husband preceded her by 16 years. 
During these 16 lonely years of her widowhood, it was her choice not to give up 
home. This she was able to take care of until about two weeks before her death, 
during all these lonely experiences she was not heard to complain, but 
occasionally would say if it was the Lord's will, she would be glad to go. It 
was the privilege and pleasure of each of the living children to be with her the 
two weeks she was ill. Without complaining she bore it all quietly and 
peacefully on the evening of the 24th of February she went to sleep to awake 
into eternal day. On February 25th, in the home, funeral services were conducted 
by the writer. Her body was laid to rest in the Lineville cemetery.
