Tha origin of the fire is unknown but is supposed to have started from matches ignited by the saws of the gin. Soon after returning from dinner the gin was started, and Mr. Pink Brooks, a young man about eighteen years old and son of Jas. Brooks one of the proprietors of the gin went into the lint room to carry a basket of cotton to the press. Before filling his basket, he discovered the fire coming from flew of the gin, and before he could, get outside he was so severely burned that he died the next evening. This sad dispensation of Providence is a sore bereavement to the distressed family, and the great loss to them and of their property is not to compared to the irreparable they have sustained in the death their child.
