C. Brown, one of the old citizens of the county died at his home in the Fairview community Saturday night at 10:30 o'clock after an illness of about a year. His remains were buried at Pleasant Grove cemetery Sunday afternoon after funeral services conducted by G. T. Martin, had been held at his residence. Mr. Brown was born in Troup County, July 12, 1844. He came to Alabama while about 12 years of age and resided for awhile near Mellow Valley. He later moved to the Fairview community where he resided at the same place for the last thirty-three years. He is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters, viz: Jno. T. Brown, W. J. P. Brown, F. M. Brown, A. A. Brown, Mrs. R. L. Carpenter, Mrs. C. E. Caldwell and Miss Katie E. Brown, all of whom reside in Clay County. Another daughter, Mrs. J. W. Ray, died in Texas. Mr. Brown was a highly respected citizen, lived an active but quiet life and reared a family of useful children.
