He was the son the late W. J. P. and Mattie Campbell Brown. He spent most of his entire life in Clay County. He attended Clay County High School. He was graduated from Jacksonville State Teachers College and later received a M. S. degree from API, Auburn. He taught in the schools of this county for 16 years. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in May 1942 and served as radio operator on a plane until his discharge in Sept. 1945. He was married to the former Willie Pearl Kelley in 1946. To this union was born 2 children. They established a home in the western part of Ashland and with the establishment of a home he professed his faith in Christ, was baptized and remained true in his faith until his death. His last days were spent remembering his many blessings. Although a young man, he realized his time had come and he was not afraid to go. Funeral services were held at Ashland Baptist Church on July 25th, at 3:00, with Bro. Rex Turner, President of Alabama Christian College, Montgomery, officiating, assisted by Rev. Webb Brooks and Judge W. B. Nolen. Blair Funeral Home Directing. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Church of Christ cemetery where he was a member. He is survived by his wife, one son, Walton Brown, a daughter, Helen Brown, 3 brothers, W. J. P. and Hubert, of Ashland; John A. of Sylacauga; Four sisters, Miss Lena Brown and Mrs. R. L. Mann, Ashland, Mrs. T. H. Rozelle, Sylacauga, and Mrs. Mancel Carpenter, Lineville. Active pallbearers were VFW Comrades: O. L. Jordan, W. L. Moore Fred Willis, O. B. Pruet, C. M. Pruet and Kiffin Browning. Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Dick, W. Z. Hassell, Howard Shultz, Pete Mathews, Louis Moore, Leon Barker, Smith Thomas, D. H. White, M. G. Satterfield, Ledford Smith, Edgar Wynn, and Dr. Geo. Beale. The floral offerings and the crowd that gathered to pay tribute bore out the testimony of his life which was one of patience, kindness, honesty, and respect for his fellow man.
