The deed seems to have been deliberately planned and is thought to be a result of some mental depression, caused by discouragement on account of financial difficulties. It is said that the deceased had applied to several parties in town during the day for a loan of $65 stating that he had a kind note that he must meet and expressed to several of his friends that he was in a bad sharp financially. About 3:30 in the afternoon he went to local drug store and purchased an ounce vial or carbolic acid and going to his home drank freely of its fatal contents upon his arrival there. A physician was hastily summoned but there was no hope for recovery and death resulted in a few minutes. His dying statements indicated business mistakes and difficulties as a reason for his rash act. Mr. Bullard was about 27 years of age and was reared in this county. He was a member of an excellent family and his domestic relations appeared to be happy. He is survived by three little children, a grief-stricken wife and several sisters. Tho funeral services were conducted jointly by the Masons and Woodmen of the World and the remains were buried at Sardis cemetery near the old home of the deceased.
