Ashland Progress
Mr. Chesley Walter Burgess passed away at his home in the Spring Hill Community 
on the evening of February 5th at the age of 89. Funeral services were held at 
Blair Funeral Home at 2 o'clock p.m. on February 6th, conducted by Rev. A. A. 
Jacobs and Rev. Leon Browning. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Blair 
was in charge. Pallbearers were grandsons; James, Herman and Nathan Burgess, 
Marion Fulton, Walter Hamlin and Leroy Lackey. He is survived by three sons; L. 
Ashland; W. Jay, Frank Manchester, two daughters, Mrs. Ola Hamlin, Talladega, 
Miss Buma Burgess, Ashland; one brother, four sisters and a large number of 
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
