George was a good worker, honest and conscientious, and had the respect of white and black. He was working in the field when a thundershower came up, and he went into a small shack for shelter. He was struck by & bolt of lightning which seared his clothes, scotching his hair slightly, but otherwise not disfiguring him. Mr. Hollis Mitchell hearing the cries of a small colored boy with the stricken man, hurried to the scene, and carried the body to Burney's home.
