About the year 1840, Mr. L. M. Burney moved from North Carolina to Coweta County, Ga. In the year 1847, he was made a Mason, and in the following year a Royal Arch Mason. In the year 1854 he removed to Alabama and settled in what is now Clay County near Lineville. He participated in the constitution of Masons at Lineville and remained a member of this Lodge up to the date of his death. Until chronic disease of later years, attended with great physical pain, interrupted his attendance, he was a regular communicant at the Lodge, and contributed by his labor to the advancement of the Order. He was characterized by unaffected simplicity and humility, truthfulness, honesty, kindness, benevolence to the poor, and in the bridling of his tongue against speaking evil of others. He died at his home, June 22, 1888, after a very short and very severe illness. Whereas the supreme Architect has, in His infinite wisdom, called from labor our brother, Lindsey Maburn Burney, therefore Resolved, That in his death Masonry has lost a bright light; and Lineville Lodge, No. 219, one of its most useful members. Resolved, That the virtures of humility, kindness, truthfulness, honesty, benevolence, and freedom from evil speaking, all of which entered conspicuously into his character, present an example worthy of our emulation. Resolved, That we bow submisively to the will of the Supreme Architect, expressed in his sudden call from labor. Resolved, That we are thus reminded of the necessity of being prepared for that call which may come to us soon and unexpectedly. Resolved, That our sympathies are hereby extended to the family of our deceased brother, and that a copy of these resolutions be furnished to the widow. Resolved, That we request the publication of these resolutions in the Clay County Watchman. W. P. Bell J. E. McCain W. T.
