Ottis Caldwell was killed instantly Saturday afternoon when the car he was driving ran into a bank near Heflin school on the Ashland Talladega highway. It is believed a tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the car. Mr. Caldwell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Caldwell of Ashland Route 2. He was 28 years old and followed construction work as an occupation. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Pleasant Grove Church with burial in adjoining cemetery. Rev. Joiner officiated with White Funeral home directing. Active pallbearers were Junior Gravette, Arthur Maliston, Nathan Gravette, James Hart, Leon Crawford, and Dixon Crawford. Surviving besides the parents are two brothers, Charlie and Herbert Caldwell; two sisters, Mrs. Oma Dell Phurough and Mrs. Exa Dell Huddleston; five nephews and three nieces. Flower girls were, Mrs. Roy McClellan, Miss Helen Patterson, Mrs. Hershell Fennell, Mrs. Harvey Ervin, Mrs. George Robinson, Mrs. James Hart.
