The scene of the killing was in Clay County, and after it occurred Jones went to his home where he was later arrested by Clay County Officers and taken to the Ashland jail. The staying of Canada was the result of an argument about some money in which he and Jones had engaged Jesse Germany and Johnnie Wheeler, who reside in the same community, are said to have been at the scene but were powerless to interfere because of threats Jones wade to use his gun if they did. It is said that a physician's examination showed Canada had received three blows on the head. Both of the men involved in the tragedy are World War veterans and well known in Talladega and Clay counties. Canada is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Canada who resides in the Chandler Springs section, and in addition to his parents is survived by his wife who is the sister of Homer Ivey of Talladega, and three children as well as a number of brothers and sisters. Jones is an unmarried and the son of Mr. & Mrs. W.M. Jones. Additional Comments: Ashland Progress Nov 19, 1931: Of the criminal cases tried two were on charges of murder. Grady Jones who slew General Canada near Chandler Springs last April by striking him on the head with a gun barrel was convicted of manslaughter in the 1st degree and his punishment was fixed at 2 1/2 years in the penitentiary.
