Mr. Carpenter was the watchman in charge of the two graphite plants and usually carried his shotgun to kill hawks. One of Will Worthy's boys was present when the accident occurred. Besides the wife, eight children survive. The oldest only 14 years old. He was buried at Concord Saturday with Rev, F. J. Ingram conducting the funeral.
