Ashland Progress
Mrs. Viola Carpenter. 84, sister of Mr. Walter Dean, Ashland, passed away at an 
early hour on September 21, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Homer Hampton in 
Anniston. Funeral services were held at Concord Baptist Church on Sep. 22nd, with 
interment in church cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Clay County. She and 
her husband moved to Talladega a number of years ago and after his passing she 
went to Anniston to reside with her children. She is survived by five sons and 
five daughters, four brothers and two sisters; J. B. Dean, New Site, Walter, 
Ashland, Wesley Ashland. Rt. 2, and Luther, Oneonta Mrs. Izora Finch of Anniston 
and Jenia Hudson, GA. the six members of the Dean family, the youngest of whom is 
69 years of age, this is the first one to pass.
