To this union was born one son, Wilmer Carpenter, who, together with his mother, survive the deceased. Also surviving the deceased are five grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter joined the Baptist church at New Hope, near Lineville, and was baptized by Rev. S. J. Ingram on August 9, 1905. On July 1908, he transferred his membership to Concord Baptist church near Pyriton, where he remained a member until the time of his death, having been a deacon in the latter church since November 3, 1935. Mr. Carpenter spent his entire life in Clay County near his birthplace. He lived a constant Christian and was active in every church and civic activity for the betterment of his community and county, always seeking an opportunity to help his fellowman. He was liberal in his support to the church and school and contributed in every way possible for the upbuilding of his community and state by giving freely of his means, time and influence in an effort to aid every good and progressive cause. He was charitable toward every underprivileged man or woman, and ever stood ready to throw the mantle of charity over their mistakes and to take them by the hand and lift them up to a higher and nobler plane of living. He was most devoted to his family, and never spared any cost or effort on his part that would add to their comfort and well-being. He was kind and noble honest to the highest degree in his dealings with all men everywhere, and his life was such to fully merit emulation by everyone who desires to live a noble and upright life. May the memory of his good deeds linger always with those who knew him. One who knew him well and long. A. L.
