Services were today at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Junior Poore officiating. Burial was in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ellie Carter; six daughters, Mrs. Audine Brown of LaGrange, Ga., Mrs. Julia P. Fincher of Graham, Mrs. Annie R. Boyd of Lineville, Mrs. Gladys Brooks of Delta, Mrs. Donnie Sparks of Waverly and Mrs. Bonnie Fordham of Heflin; a son, Mather Carter of College Park, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Vera Moody of Alexander City; a brother, Homer Carter of Birmingham; 18 grandchildren and 28 greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers were William Boyd, Gary Boyd, Leon Sellers, Gary Fordham, Andy Fordham and Terry Fordham. Mr. Carter was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a lifelong resident of Clay County and a farmer.
