Cook, former clearing contractor, who lived near the bridge over the Tallapoosa River was drowned last Friday morning about 4 o'clock while returning with two companions from a coon hunt across the river. A severe wind and rainstorm was blowing at the time and it is thought the small boat was too light for the velocity of the wind and was overturned. His companions swam out and they reported that they thought they passed Cook swimming toward the bank, but upon reaching shore, they missed him and after a short search, decided to come for help. They arrived here at an early hour, and secured help, a number of citizens joining in the search for the body using grappling hooks, but the body was not found until about 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. The body was brought here and prepared for burial and was carried to the old home of Mr. Cook at Lineville, where it was buried Saturday afternoon. Mr. Cook is survived by his widow and four children, mother, Mrs. R. R. Cook of Lineville, and two brothers, Homer and Dewey Cook, also of Lineville. and a sister in Alexander City, Mrs. D. Mitchell. A sad coincident was that Mr. Cook died on his 31st birthday.
