Ashland Progress
J. E. (Bud) Crabtree, one of the old citizens of Clay County, died at his home 
1/2 mile south of Ashland at an early hour Friday morning. August 17, after a 
long period of failing health. Mr. Crabtree was 74 years of age and had been a 
resident of Clay County all his life. He was born and reared in the Bethel 
community in South Clay, but a considerable part of his life had been spent as a 
resident of Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Crabtree, and by two 
daughters, Mrs. J.F. Hanson and Mrs. Vilas Brewer. Funeral services were held at 
the home Saturday morning and his remains were interred in the city cemetery.
