J. Dawkins was born in Jasper County, Ga. Nov. 5, 1846, and departed this life July 29, 1917. He was laid to rest at McDaniel Chapel, the funeral being conducted by Rev. E. L. Roy. A.J. Dawkins moved with his father from Georgia to near Gibsonville in this in 1859 and a few years later moved near Mellow Valley where he remained till his death. He acted as a juror on the first held in Clay County. He served two years in the war of 61 to 65, was married to Malissie Pursley in Dec. 1867 and to them were born 12 children, 4 boys and 8 girls. He leaves a widow and 8 children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He had been a consistent of the M. E. Church South for a number of years. A Friend.
