The funeral service being conducted by his pastor, Rev. L. A. Waits. He was near eighty years old, his exact age being 79 years, 8 months and 24 days. He had been in very poor health for some time. Mr. Dawkins was born at Monticello, but moved to Alabama while quite young and settled in what is now Clay County. When the War began he joined the 54th Georgia Company composed chiefly of natives of his old home community and served throughout the war. Afterwards he returned to his home in this county and has resided here continuously ever since. He reared a large family of children, eight of whom, four sons and four daughters, and his wife, survive him. The Progress is requested to express for the bereaved family their thanks for the many kindnesses shown him during his illness and for aid and sympathy in connection with his death.
