Odrun Dawkins, son of Rev. and Mrs. T. D. Dawkins, of Mellow Valley, died in the army hospital at New Haven, Connecticut, Wednesday, September 25th, and his remains were brought home and buried in the cemetery at McDaniel's Chapel Wednesday, October 2nd. Private Dawkins enlisted in the army the past spring, leaving Ashland for Camp Sevier on May 28th. He remained there until July 15th when he was transferred to Camp Upton, N.Y., where he stayed cm September 17th. A considerable portion of this time he spent in the hospital and on the 17th, he was transferred to the army hospital at New Haven Conn., where he remained till his death. He had been suffering from a lung trouble for sometime but the immediate cause of his death is said to have been pneumonia. His body was accompanied home by Corporal D. J. Wurm and the funeral was attended by an immense crowd. The services were impressive and were engaged in by several ministers, Revs. S. J. Ingram, A. A. Hutto and F.J. Ingram of Ashland being among the number. The young man was a brother of W. O. Dawkins of this city and was well and favorably known here, having attended the High School here for some years and completed the course.
