Ashland Progress
The funeral service for John Henry Dawkins, 85, who died at the home of his son, 
Herbert, Aug. 21, was held at County Line Baptist Church, where he had been a 
member for 63 years. The Rev. Charles Jordan, Rev. Henry Tapley and Judge W.
B. Nolen officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Blair Funeral 
Directors in charge. Mr. Dawkins was born and reared in Clay County. He had been 
in ill health for several weeks. Active pallbearers were Winford Dawkins, E. O. 
Jordan, Willie W. Twilley, Glenn Smith, Lester Walker, Hugh Young. Honorary 
pallbearers were Ross McKinney, Marvin Hendrix, C. M. Pruet D. K. Carpenter, 
Arnold Gray, Jack Newell, Tolly Green, Orval White, A. D. McDonald, K. B. 
Braswell, S. D. Young. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Biddie M. Dawkins; three 
sons, Herbert, A. Ashland; J.H. Talladega. Five grandchildren and 10 
greatgrandchildren
