G. Dean died Monday morning at the home of his son, W. T. Dean at this place. Mr. Dean was 85 years old. He. was born in Georgia and was brought to this county when only a child and has lived here ever since. He served four years in the Confederate army and made a record for his bravery and faithful service. He never ceased to love the men with whom he fought and always attended the Confederate veteran's Reunions. He was never happier than when mixing with his comrades in battle. He was known by them as the "Grand Old man from Alabama." Before death he requested that he be buried in his grey uniform, which was done. He is survived by two sons, J. W. Dean, Carrolton, Ga., and W. T. Dean, Ashland, Ala., and one daughter, Mrs. A. R. Blackstock, Ashland, Ala. He was a most faithful citizen and devout Christian. For nearly two years past he never missed hearing pastor preach except when he was out of town. Funeral services were held at the Ashland Baptist church today, conducted by Rev. A. A. Hutto, assisted by Rev. F. J. Ingram and Col. W. M. Lackey. The body was buried in the city cemetery.
