B. Dean Buried January 1st -- Funeral rites for Mr. Joseph Barnett Dean, 83, were held at the First Methodist Church, of which he was a member at 2 o'clock p.m. on January 1st, with Rev. G. L. Armstrong, the pastor, Rev. Bill Cockerham, and Judge W. B. Nolen officiating. Interment was in the City Cemetery directed by Radney Funeral HOme, Alexander City. Mr. Dean passed away in Russell Hospital, Alexander City on December 29th following a period of declining health. He was a native of Clay County, served the people of this county as circuit clerk also as tax collector and later was in the grocery business here. After moving to Tallapoosa County, he operated a business near Alexander City, later moved to New Site where he was residing at the time of his passing. He is survived by one son, W. Otha Dean, of Alexander City; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Dean Jones, New Site; and Mrs. Lacy Hollingsworth, B'ham. Several grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
