Denney, age 58, passed away at the Lineville Hospital at noon Tuesday, following a very brief heart ailment. Funeral services were held from Providence Primitive Baptist Church Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. Elder B. B. Finley officiating, assisted by Elder M. T. Shepard, Pavo, Elder J. M. Denton, Macon, Elder O. M. Streetman, Gardendale, Elder M. Shaddix, Lincoln, and Elder H. H. Goodman, Ashland. Interment was in the nearby cemetery with James A. Jordan and Roy M. Beck representing Blairs directing. The pallbearers were selected from the churches of Elder Denney's pastoral care. From Providence, W. E. Hardman and D. W. Sparks; from Smyrna, T.L. Futral and Lonzo Davis; from Ephesus (Fairfax), A. W. Morris and Phillip Kelley; and from Fellowship, L. J. McCullough and Gaines Hodnett. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Goodman Denney; one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Tenney; seven sons, Charles, U.V., Buford, Fred, Bemon, Claxton, Arlyn, and Garland; a large group of other relatives and a host of friends. Elder Denney was a prominent citizen of Clay County and a noted Primitive Baptist minister, having been serving as the pastor of his home church and other churches for 31 years. He also has served as clerk of the Hillabee Primitive Baptist Association for many years. He was held in high esteem by the membership of his churches, by his community, and by all who knew him as was demonstrated by the multitude present at the funeral, as well as at his home when he was lying in state. He also worked for Roop Wholesale Grocery out of Bowden for a number of years and was in and out of all the grocery stores. This and surrounding counties.
