R. Duke who died at his home recently was buried at Mt. Moriah, the services being conducted by Revs. Bean, Sprayberry and Daugherty. He was 85 years of age and a large crowd attended his funeral. This man was a great citizen and was among the first to make wagons in this country. Also in the summer and fall of 1870-80 pulled the ground hog threshes that made the bread the people of this section lived on. He was a millwright and made the mills before modern inventions. He was a man who meant much to this community and county. He stood for honesty, truth and veracity, law and order. He loved the Lord. He reared a large family, 15 children and 175 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He joined the Baptist church early in life and helped hew the timbers to make the building he worshiped in. He made coffins in early days. He asked to be buried in a home-made coffin, which his friends and neighbors did make for him. He has gone to that great beyond from which no traveler will ever return.
