Anniston Star
On Monday night at 8:00 o'clock October 14, 1929, the death angel silently 
entered the Freemans home and carried away its sweetest flower just in the 
radiant beauty of youth at the age of eighteen years. Birtye the youngest son, 
was taken from us. He was jumping center of the basketball team of Mechanicsville 
School. His suffering was of short duration, but he bore it patiently and 
submissively. Neither we nor the family little dreamed that the end was so near 
until grim sickness seized him or October 11, at the Mechanicsville school....
