Garrett had passed away at her home in Memphis Tenn., Wednesday night at 10 o'clock. Although Lillian, as she was familiarly called, had been in declining health for the past few months, her death was a real shock to the people of this and surrounding communities, and her many friends, who had known and loved her from childhood. She was reared here, a devout Christian, noted for her high ideals always progressive, and her influence for good will be sorely missed by her many friends and loved ones. Only a few short months ago she was a teacher here, and she always discharged her duties in the schoolroom and elsewhere in such a way as to reflect credit upon herself and her community. The many beautiful flowers attested the high esteem in which she was held. She is survived by her husband. John M. Garrett, daughter and son, Margaret Anne and John M., Jr., and one little grandson of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Mrs. Pat Patterson of Anniston, Mrs. Cleo Graben of Lineville. Mrs. Thora Sewell of Delta and Miss Mildred Willingham of Washington, D. C. Her funeral was conducted at the Delta Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. D. W. Burson, assisted by the Rev, W. E. Wellborn and the Rev. B. W. Mathews. Col. Cleveland Dempsey of Ashland, a lifelong friend of the family, spoke glowing words of tribute to the life of the deceased. She was laid to rest in Delta Cemetery, Jones of Anniston directing. Pallbearers were: Ross Graben, Robert A. Patterson, James H. Garrett, Schley, S. J., and Stribling McCollough.
