Roanoke Leader
After a very short illness, Mr. Robert Gay died here this morning at the home of 
his son, W. C. Gay. Mr. Gay was nearly 74, Gay was nearly 74 years old and had 
spent almost his entire life in this section, where he had many friends. He was 
next to the youngest of the noted old Mitchell Gay family on Corn House, just 
above Malone. Mr. Gay is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. B. Kilgore, five 
sons, W. C. Mitchell, Tug, Kinnie and Forrester Gay, two sisters, Mrs. Mollie 
Clemmons, Mrs. Edward Burns, two brothers, Mr. Gib and Mr. John Gay, besides a 
host of other relatives and friends. Interment will be at Motley beside his 
companion, who preceded him about 18 years ago. Funeral services will be in 
charge of the Masonic order, of which he has been a faithful member since early 
manhood.
