Clay County Watchman
Thalia, infant daughter of J. R. and E. M. Gilbert, departed this life, June 
10th, 1886, after a long and painful struggle with that fatal disease pneumonia. 
Had death been capable of pity he would have spared the beautiful flower whose 
fragrance was shed upon all our hearts. Could we I have barred his advance, or 
propitiated his favor, we would have shielded this fair and tender bud from his 
withering touch. "Whom the gods love, die young.
