Ashland Progress
Funeral rites for Mrs. Pearlie Gortney of Cragford Rt. 1, were held at 2 o'clock 
p.m. Aug. 20th at Mt. Zion Church, conducted by Revs. Grady Birchfield, Grady 
Harris and Elmer Wheeles. Interment was in nearby cemetery, directed by Blair 
Funeral Home. Five sons and a son-in-law were. pallbearers. Mrs. Gortney passed 
away at her home on Aug. 18th, after a long illness, at the age of 53. Survivors 
include her husband, Gary Gortney. Five sons, Paul, Fred, Johnny, Bootie and 
Donald, one daughter, Mrs. Clifton Patterson, her father, John McCain five 
grandchildren. and Three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Smith Alex City; Mrs. Ethel Owen 
and! Mrs. Lois Strickland, Goodwater, throe brothers. Seab. Owen and, Billy 
McCain.
