Gortney, 81, of Ashland will be today at 2 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home with Rev. Richard East officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery. The family will receive friends until time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Gortney died Wednesday at Clay County Hospital. Survivors include three daughters, Gaynell Harvell of Ashland, Charlene Gurley of Talladega and Brenda Long of Birmingham; two sons, Travis Gortney and Douglas Gortney, both of Ashland; two sisters, Mildred Cotney of Dadeville and Zader Kennedy of Ashland; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be James Smith, Vic Gortney, Tony Gortney, Mike Smith, Phil Gortney and Jeremy Long. Mr. Gortney, a Clay County native and lifelong resident, was a retired timber producer and farmer. He was a Baptist and was preceded by his wife, Beulah Gortney.
