Griffin, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Wicker beat this week. The other members of the family had gone on a visit leaving Mr. Griffin at home to attend to his stock and things in general. Returning from their visit on Tuesday night Mr. Griffin was not at home and thinking that he was only spending the night with neighbors nothing was thought of his absence and no search made till on Wednesday morning while feeding the stock some member of the family found his body in the hog lot where it hid evidently for more than 36 hours, being in an advanced stage of decomposition, and badly mutilated by the hogs. As to the cause of his death it is only speculative, but it is supposed that he died from heart failure or some other cause which produced sudden death, as no one believes any person would have murdered him and concealed the crime by placing the body where it was found. Mr. Griffin was one of the leading citizens of the county, having been Justice of the Peace for more than thirty years, and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
