Our Mountain Home
Josiah Gunter, one of the pioneers of this section of Alabama, died at bis home 
at White Cloud Sunday afternoon and was hurried at Providence church Clay County, 
at four o'clock Monday afternoon.1 1 Mr. Gunter was born in Newberry district, 
South Carolina, in 1820 and moved to Alabama in 1854. He had resided in the White 
Cloud community since 1860. His wife proceeded him to the great beyond about five 
years ago, and he is survived by ten living children, four girls and six boys. 
Mr. Gunter was a Confederate soldier, which means he was an honor to his county 
and state.

contracted nervousness from which he has never recovered, and is now age 73. 
Unable to make a liviing by manual labor on account of heart trouble and age.
