Ashland Progress
During an electrical storm which visited this section early Friday morning J. W. 
Hallman, a farmer who resided about 5 miles west of Ashland was struck by 
lightning and killed instantly. He is said to have been standing in or near the 
doorway of his home when the lightning struck it near the corner and followed the 
wall to where he was standing. Some of the timbers were knocked from the wall of 
the building but no other members of the family were injured. Mr. Hallman leaves 
a wife, and eight children. His remains were interred in Olive Branch cemetery 
Saturday, funeral services being conducted by Rev. S. J. Ingram.
