His death came as a distinct shock to his family and friends, as he had not been confined to his bed, but was able to help in the gathering of his crop up until the time of his death. He was a loving father, a kind neighbor, and a good citizen. He leaves eight children, five daughters, Mrs. Gertrude McDonald, Lillian, Sarah, Florine, and Florence and three sons, Hubert, Payton and Horace, all if Clay County, except Hubert of Birmingham. Two brothers, Joe and Lewis also survive him. He was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services, were held Saturday morning, conducted by his pastor, Rev. G. C. Corley, of Millerville, assisted by Rev. S. C. Ray, and present and remains were laid to rest in Lystra cemetery. A large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the service.
