Ashland Progress
Joseph R. Hallman, 92, died at the home of his grandson, L. J. Mattox, Rossville, 
Ga., Dec. 26. Burial was conducted by Rev. Grady Birchfield at Liberty Hill 
Cemetery Dec. 28 with Blair directing. Born June 5, 1858, the deceased was a 
resident of Clay County until two years ago. He is survived by three sons, W. H., 
J. A., and T. A. Hallman all of Ashland and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Walton, 
Mrs. H. C. Nappier and Miss Lois Hallman all of Chattanooga, Tenn. Also surviving 
is one brother, Lewis Hallman, who lives three and one-half miles south of 
Ashland.
