His start in life was with a small store when Lineville was not known so far away. He was associated with Geo. Austin as partner and Assistant Postmaster a long time ago and then with J. D. Jeter, another Postmaster and then a Marchant. Mr. Jeter having just a few weeks ago preceded him in crossing tide. He was for a few years in business with Mr. Haynes at Oxford ad a while in Texas. When he came back to Lineville he clerked for Haynes Mercantile company many years, then for Griffin and sons for a long time. He then formed partnership with O.B. Yates and this firm existed several years when he went into' business at the present store for himself. He also has served on the council of the town and was one time a member of the Board of Directors at The Farmers & Merchants Bank. Quite a number of the older citizens speak well of their friend, saying he was always clean in his dealings, and that no bad repute has marred his useful career.
