Ashland Progress
The Masons of the Ashland Lodge went down to McDaniel's Chapel near Mellow Valley 
Tuesday afternoon to bury with Masonic honors the remains of J.L. Hamil who died 
at an early hour Monday morning at his home there. The deceased was an old 
resident of that community, having resided there as far back as the writer can 
remember. He was about 75 years of age and is survived by his wife and a large 
family of children. In his death the community loses a good old citizen who 
shaped his life in a large measure according to the ideas and ideals of the early 
pioneers. The funeral services were impressive and were attended by a large 
concourse of people.
