R. Hamlin, one of Ashland's lifelong citizens, died at his home here early last Thursday morning, following a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held at the Ashland Baptist church on Friday afternoon conducted by his pastor, Rev. Jesse F. Ray, assisted by Rev. F.J. Ingram. Both ministers spoke highly of Mr. Hamlin as a skilled worker and Christian A friend, in speaking of Mr. Hamlin's life had these quoted lines to say: "No ostentation marked his tranquil way, His duties all discharged without display." The deceased was 76 years of age and is survived by three sons and one daughter Otho Hamlin of Bemiston, Ed and Harlan Hamlin of Ashland, and Mrs. V. H. Dean of Gadsden. Following the service, the remains were laid to rest beside his wife, in the Ashland cemetery, who preceded him in death about a year. Blair was in charge. Pallbearers were Robert Collier, Fred Hamlin, Hoyt Dean, Tyler Hamlin, J. W. Collier and Oscar Hamlin.
