E. (Gene) Hardegree, 82, of Ashland, Rt. 2, died Tuesday at Noble Army Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. A native of Clay County. He was the father of State Trooper E.E. Hardegree Jr. Hardegree had lived near Ashland all his life. He was the father of State Trooper Sgt. E. E. Hardegree, Jr. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Thelma M. Hardegree; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Mulkey of Atlanta and Mrs. Helen Haywood of Ashland, Rt. 2; six other sons, Barney J. Hardegree of Forest Park, Ga., James B. Hardegree of Irondale, John A. Hardegree of the U. S. Navy in Omaha, Neb., Robert T. Hardegree of the U. S. Navy in the Philippines, Jerry L. Hardegree of the U. S. Coast Guard in Fort Myers, Fla., and Lewis B. Hardegree of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Miss Bessie Hardegree of Ashalnd, Rt. 2.
