Talladega County's 13th traffic fatality of the year occurred Wednesday when a 
bicyclist drifted into the path of an auto on Alabama 77, south of here, 
according to State Troopers. Arthur Clarence Hayes, 40, of Ashland, was killed. 
Troopers said Hayes was traveling on a bicycle in the same direction as an 
automobile driven by James Arthur Shields of Vestavia Hills, Birmingham. Hayes 
died at 6:15 p.m. at Citizen's Hospital, following the 3 p.m. accident that 
happened 8.2 miles south of Talladega. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The 
body is at Blair Funeral Home. Mr. Hayes, a retired painter, is survived by his 
father. Charlie M. Hayes of Sylacauga. a sister, Mrs. George Lacey of Ashland; 
two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Hudgins of Ossining, N. Y., and Mrs. Elsie Mae 
Hawkins of Peterman; three half-brothers, Howard Hayes of New York, Austin Hayes 
of Montgomery and Pfc. Roy Hayes of the U. S. Army, Vietnam.
