Ashland Progress
Brother John Hicks was born March 17th, 1847. Departed this life Sept. 26th, 
1926. Age 78 years and some days. He was married to Janie Hurst in 1872, and to 
this union was born 12 children 6 boys and 6 girls. He joined the Baptist church 
at Concord at the age of 16 years and lived a faithful member until his death. He 
leaves his wife and children, and many friends to mourn his loss. The funeral 
service was conducted by the writer, assisted by F. J. Ingram and S. C. Ray after 
which the body was laid to rest in Concord cemetery to await the resurrection of 
the dead. His Friend and Pastor, S. J. Ingram.
