The fatal blow, from which he never regained consciousness, is said to have been struck by Roy Johnson, another negro. According to reports Johnson had called at the home to visit a girl, Hines wife's sister, and at a late hour when he and others were keeping up a racket, Hines told him that it was bedtime and asked him to leave. After he got out of the house, he is said to have called Hines out and struck him the fatal blow, leaving him lying unconscious in the yard. The dead negro had been employed by M. B. Williams and had worked all day before at the warehouse. Roy Johnson, his slayer, escaped and up till the time this was written (Wednesday morning) had not been captured. It is rumored, however, that he is scouting nearby and his early capture is expected. Additional Comments: Roy Johnson was convicted of Manslaughter and sent to prison.
