Ashland Progress
Charley Owen Hobbs, former resident of Clay County died in a Birmingham hospital 
Wednesday morning at 3:00 o'clock and his body is being brought back to his old 
home. The burial is to be at Pleasant Grove cemetery, a few miles north of 
Ashland this (Thursday) afternoon. Mr. Hobbs was for many years engaged in the 
mercantile business in Ashland, later moving to Brunswick, Ga., where he resided 
several years. As a result of an injury, he submitted to an amputation of one of 
his legs some time ago and has since been in a critical condition and gradually 
growing worse. He was a son of Mrs. M. I. Hobbs of Ashland, Route 2 and a brother 
of our townsman J. M. Hobbs. His wife and two children survive him.
