Horn, one of the pioneers of northeast Alabama, died at his home near Clairmont, Clay County, Thursday night at an advanced age, said to be near one hundred years. He is survived by his wife, who is about ninety, and several children and scores of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Until a few years ago Mr. Horn was a familiar figure in Talladega where he came to market produce and transact business. The hundreds and thousands of chickens and eggs and the number of carcasses of mutton and beef he has peddled in Talladega will never be known, and until the construction of the A.B & A. railroad all his trips were made overland. Mr. Horn was widely known throughout Talladega and Clay counties. The funeral services and Interment of the deceased occurred Friday afternoon. Birmingham P.H.: At the remarkable age of 101 years, Larry Horn of Clearmont Springs, is dead. For two generations the people of Talladega have beheld his tall, stalwart form, grizzled face and listened to his reminiscences. Many claims to longevity are unfounded but in the case of Larry Horn it is susceptible of abundant proof that he had passed the century milestone. Nearly 100 of his descendants and kinfolk inhabit Horn's valley in Clay County, and the country thereabouts. He used tobacco and whisky all his life, and he was a mighty hunter. He was a fine type of the Appalachian pioneer, and he lived through the sunshine and shadow of 100 years without one disgraceful act to mar his record. Additional Comments: Mar 15, 1880: The Talladega Messenger says: Wild turkeys and wolves must be plentiful about Chandler Springs in this county. Mr. Larry Horn killed and brought to this city a few days since seven wild turkeys killed at one shot and also the skin of a mammoth wolf killed the same day.
