Newman Ingram was shot and killed, by Sam Gregg, both white men, the trouble occurring a few miles beyond Delta Wednesday. The sheriff's office was called, and a deputy started for the scene of the difficulty but found that it had occurred just over the line in Randolph County. From the reports it seems that the two men met in the road and the shooting occurred just after they had passed, Ingram being shot in the back, but details are meager and the cause of the trouble was not learned. Both men have families. Later reports indicate that Gregg has been arrested and carried to jail at Wedowee. Jun 21, 1918, Randolph Star Sam Gregg, charged with killing Ingram, was given a preliminary hearing before Judge Heflin Monday and was held to the Grand Jury. Bond was fixed at $5000, which he made and was released. The state was represented by Solicitor Burns and Judge Garrison of Ashland, and the defendant by Hon. R. J. Hooton of Roanoke. The killing took place in Beat 13, this county several weeks ago and Gregg had been in jail since. Additional Comments: Samuel Thomas Gregg was convicted and sent to prison. He was paroled in about a year, and he moved to Eastland Texas, but he died in Dallas County TX.
