BALLEW DIED AT ASHLAND LAST WEEK --------------------- Isaac L. BALLEW, a well known member of the printer's craft, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary BALLEW, a short distance south of Ashland Monday [21 Jul 1919]. Following an attack of influenza last winter he had a general breakdown in health and his condition continued to grow worse, his afflictions being of both body and mind. In the meantime he was treated by specialists at Alabama Bryce Hospital but all to no avail and he was brought back home several weeks ago. Mr. BALLEW was born February [date obscured, probably either 1 or 4], 1871, and moved to Ashland with his parents while a young man. He followed the printer's trade the greater part of his life and was connected with printing offices here [Ashland] and at Wedowee, Talladega, Goodwater, Lineville and other towns in Alabama and Tennessee. He was married to Miss Estelle BROWN, of Cragford, who proceeded him to the great beyond several years ago. He leaves four children, his mother, two brothers and three sisters. One of his brothers, J. R. BALLEW, resides at Pisgah in north Alabama, and the other, John BALLEW, resides at Whitney, Texas. His three sisters, Mrs. HORNSBY, Mrs. COKER and Miss Ola BALLEW, reside here. One son is in military service. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Revs. R. E. MASSEY and A. A. HUTTO and the remains were interred in the new cemetery. The deceased had been a member of the Methodist church since childhood. [Originally published in the Ashland Progress; reprinted in The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 30 Jul 1919, p.1]
